A loan helped to buy used clothes.

Ligia Marlene's story

Ligia is a member of the “Mujeres Luchadoras” communal bank. She lives in the city of Cuenca, a city that has been a Cultural Patrimony of Humanity since 1999. Cuenca is very rich in history, culture and traditions. It has a varied cuisine and its residents maintain the culture and tradition of its peoples.

Ligia is 37 years old living in a common law relationship and has 6 children who are 22, 19, 17, 14, 12 and 7 years old. Her oldest son is single, her next daughter is married and they live independently. Her third son works, two of her children are attending secondary school and her youngest attends a local little elementary school. Her husband works as a private employee. She does not own a house, she rents.

Ligia sells all types of used clothes; she’s been in business 13 years. She’s also been selling new clothes for the last six months but only on prior order. She sells her merchandise throughout the city in her free time. She also works half days cleaning a house.

This is the third loan she’s taken in the communal bank and will use it to buy used clothes to increase her business. Her goal is to have her own capital and not have to ask for loans.
