A loan helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Mukhungula W.g Group's story

Receive greetings from Mukhungula W.G Group in Western Kenya! It is headed by Alice as the facilitator of the group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Alice is a mother of two children. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Alice had a very good maize yield harvesting 11 bags on 1/2 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Alice was only able to harvest five bags of maize on 1/2 acre of land. With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Alice and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Alice will educate her children and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Mukhungula W.G group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize. She is pictured with her group members in the photograph.

In this group: Alice, Everlyne, Emmy, Florence, Fridah, Joyce, Julia, Rebeccah, Respah, Susy
