A loan helped to buy cooking oil for resale.

Deo's story

Deo is 38 years old and lives in the town of Rukoki in the Fort Portal region of Uganda. He is married and has three children who are all currently in school. For the past four years, Deo has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells sugar and cooking oil.

To help expand his business, Deo has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy cooking oil for resale, and will help Deo to generate greater profits and pay school fees for his children. Deo hopes that in the future he will be able to expand his business.

Deo is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Deo who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
