Guillermo's story

Guillermo is 35 years old and lives with his family in the community of Santa Fe, located in Los Chiles in the province of Alajuela. This community is in a mountainous zone and is close the the northern border of the country. The main commercial activities are cattle ranching and farming, especially growing basic grains, sugar cane and oranges.

Guillermo has worked as a clerk for a business for a few months and this is how he earns income for his family. He has grown significantly and the neighbors have supported him a lot and now he is capable of getting ahead.

Guillermo hopes to obtain a microloan of 600,000.00 (six hundred thousand colones) to buy a computer and a desk. Acquiring these will mean a big sacrifice and require a lot of work. Nonetheless, he wants to be a successful micro-businessman and improve his family's quallity of life. This motivates him to get ahead with a lot of care and dedication.

Guillermo is a member of the Manantial de Santa Fe communal bank, one of the 150 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This is his first loan .
