In the Kathmandu Valley, clothing is made to order. Tailor stalls line the streets where store owners sell materials and work their sewing machines. These skilled tailors make school uniforms for children as well as the the traditional women's "kurta surwal" and men's "daura surwal". With a Kiva loan, BPW borrowers are able to purchase additional cloth material or sewing machines that will increase production and profitability.
