Ana Isabel's story

Ana Isabel is a female client who is 55 years of age. She lives with her husband, their two children, and her mother who is an elderly woman in need of care. Doña Ana is a hardworking and responsible woman who has great plans for her life and for her family. She has a bazaar in her home and enjoys succeeding after taking a computer literacy course. This is the second time she is requesting a loan from Fundación Mujer since she successfully repaid her first loan.

Since she has a bazaar as her business, Ana used her previous loan to invest in merchandise for the December holiday season. Now she needs operating capital since these next few months are very good for her business. Therefore, she plans to restock her merchandise. Her bazaar is located on the corridor of her house. She also has a storage shed. Ana’s business is the only bazaar in the area and it is very roomy, comfortable, and organized. Her main customers are the workers at a company called Yamber. In addition, she sells through catalogs to generate income.

Ana also takes care of her mother and the medicines are very expensive. Her mother is an elderly person, so her young children also help with managing the business while she administers the medicines to her mother.

La clienta Ana Isabel es una mujer de 55 años de edad, ella vive con su esposo , sus dos hijos y su mama que es una señora mayor y necesita cuidados .Doña Ana es una trabajadora, responsable ,con grandes proyecciones en su vida y la de su familia, ella tiene un bazar en su casa de domicilio, le encanta superarse por eso está llevando un curso de computación . Es la segunda vez que nos solicita crédito en la Fundación en el primero mantuvo una buena moral de pago. La señora tiene un negocio de un bazar, con el préstamo anterior la señora pudo invertir para la época de diciembre, ahora necesita capital de trabajo ya que estos meses son muy buenos para el bazar, y necesita surtirlo de mercadería. La señora Ana tiene un bazar en el corredor de su casa, también es cochera, es el único bazar que hay por la zona, es muy amplio, cómodo, organizado, sus principales clientes son trabajadores de una empresa llamada Yamber , también la señora para ayudarse en el negocio vende por catalogo para generar ingresos ya que ella también cuida a su mama y las medicinas son muy caras, Su madre es una persona mayor por esos sus hijos que son menores de edad también le ayudan atender el negocio mientras les da las medicinas a su mama

In Costa Rica, funding for microfinance institutions is hard to come by, and many institutions find themselves having difficulty growing and reaching all the demand for loans that exist. Kiva works with Fundacion Mujer because it attends a very marginalized population in Costa Rica, with a specific focus on women. In addition to the loan, Fundacion Mujer provides specialized training programs for their borrowers on everything from computer classes to salon training. Because of the difficulty in obtaining capital in Costa Rica, Fundacion Mujer cannot serve all the women that need loans. Therefore Kiva plays a unique role in helping Fundacion Mujer grow its portfolio and reach borrowers it otherwise would not be able to.
