The Communal Bank “Con Amor Y Fe Hacia el Desarrollo” (Toward Development with Love and Faith) meets every 15 days in Los Bajos de Montecristi, a city known for its rich culture and its handicrafts. For example, its straw hats are known within and outside of the country.
It is in this place that one can meet Sra. Ana. She is 45 years old, married, and has two children (ages 23 and 22). Both of them still live with her. Her husband is a chauffeur. Ana is a seamstress and attended a sewing and dressmaking academy several years ago. This is where she learned her profession very well.
Ana has a small sewing workshop in her home where she makes clothing based on the orders she receives from people who request her services. She also sells all types of clothing by going door-to-door, although most of her sales are made directly from her workshop. Ana works every day from 6am to 10pm and sometimes much later when she has orders to deliver. She has been doing this type of work for more than 10 years and has done very well.
This new loan will be used to buy clothing of all types, fabrics, thread, and other materials for sewing. Ana has been with the Communal Bank since the beginning and enjoys being part of the group because her fellow members are friendly and she is close to them. Her dream is to move forward in her daily life.
