Dorothy is a facilitator for the Salama A group, in Chwele. She and her co-group members have been members of One Acre Fund since 2009.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important farming inputs to distribute to Dorothy and her group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance. 

Salama A Group is comprised of six women and one man. Dorothy joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices, grow enough to feed her family, have access to quality seed and fertilizer, have more harvest profits to invest in education, and be able to plant early thanks to on-time input delivery.

In last year’s maize harvest, Dorothy reports harvesting seven bags of maize on ½ acre, an excellent harvest by her measure, and a much larger yield than the 2 2/3 bag yield that she harvested before investing in an input loan from One Acre Fund.

Dorothy plans on spending her income from the upcoming harvests on school fees for her children, saving for the future, buying clothing for the family, taking care of her parents, and livestock investments.

In the upcoming 2012 season, Salama Group A members will plant a total of seven acres of land, each farmer planting between ½ and 5 acres.
