A loan helped a member to pay from plowing costs and agricultural inputs (fertilizers, seeds...).

Benkadi 1 Group's story

Group Benkadi 1's ten members are married women who are on average 38 years old with four children. Most of them live in polygamous families in Kena, one of the villages of Nantien Township in Sikasso prefecture (Mali's third administrative region).
They are partnering with micro-finance organization Soro Yiriwaso to complete their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their sixth loan with the organization; previous loans were repaid successfully.
The cultivated crops are rice, groundnuts and tiger nuts for Ramatou, who is standing first from the left in the picture. With her loan, she plans to pay for plowing costs and buy agricultural fertilizers and seeds to maintain 2.5 acres. After the harvest, the crops are sold in the village and at the Sikasso market to a clientele comprising men and women. She expects to make an average profit of 145,000 CFA per agricultural cycle.
This profit will allow her to repay her loan and to help her husband with daily expenses. She wishes to maintain this collaboration with Soro Yiriwaso to better operate her agricultural space and to increase her profits.

In this group: Ramatou, Katatio, Awa, Machata, Chata, Adia, Fanta, Kia, Nawa, Aminata
