A loan helped to buy fertilizer and pay land use fees.

Silvia's story

Silvia is 38 and lives in Shankivironi (in the Peruvian Amazon). She has been married to Rubén for 20 years and they have two daughters: Oneyda and Nayely, who they care for in their own home. Silvia works hard farming16 cuadras (a measure of farmland) of coffee, citrus, corn and beans. She has been farming for 20 years; of the land she works only10 cuadras is hers, and she pays rental fees to others for the rest. She greatly enjoys working the land together with her husband, who helps her. Twice a month Silvia travels to the city of Pichanaki to sell her produce in the central market there. Currently she is harvesting coffee and expects a good profit this year from the crop's beans. This is Silvia's fourth credit with the lender “Los clavelitos de Shankivironi” and she is committed to prompt repayment, as she has done in prior loans. She enjoys the interaction with other members of the lending association, who are helpful and responsible workers. Silvia will use this credit to buy fertilizer to spread around her crops to increase yield, and will also use part of the loan to pay the land use fees.
