Dios Bendice 1 & 2 Group's story

Jesimena is the group representative. She is the coordinator of the group "Dios Bendice 1 & 2" (God Bless). The group is located in La Romana, where the sugarcane harvest and tourist industries dominate the economy. Jesimena and other members are Haitian emigrants. She has lived in the same community for many years and, for her entire life, she has been living day-to-day without a steady income. She is excited to be doing something different and is ready to make a change and begin to better her life. She hopes to help her children out of their poverty some day as well.

Jesimena plans to invest in her comedor (small restaurant in her neighborhood) by buying rice, beans, flour, oil, vegetables and meats. She cooks a daily lunch for different people in her community or employers and dreams of having a big restaurant in the nearest town. She will use her business profits to make structural changes in her business by buying new chairs, tables, re-painting and many other things.

Her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti).

In this group: Jesimena, Adela, Luzmaria, Lormina, Maria, Sonia, Amarica, Soila, Inesse, Lucia
