Sofik's story

Sofik was born in 1952 in Yerevan. She is a widow and lives with her daughter, son-in-low and four grandchildren.

For more than 35 years, Sofik has engaged in garment making. For more than 20 years she worked at the manufacturer Metax as a seamstress. Then she worked at Ayas, a knitted goods factory, as a weaver.

After the Soviet Union period, Sofik and her husband decided to run their own business, so at first they started to sew for customers in their house. As demand grew, they decided to organize a little workshop in front of their house. Sofik and her husband produced various clothes for different organizations and individuals.

Five years ago, Sofik became a widow, and she could not cope with her business alone, so she asked her daughter’s family to move to her house and to help her with the business.

Thanks to their joint effort, they are able to continue the business and to keep it in their family.

Sofik needs a loan of 1,200 US dollars to buy a new sewing machine and different patterns and materials for her business.
