A loan helped to pay for newspaper printing.

Delphia's story

Delphia works at a homeless shelter running a program designed to house both the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. Her passion for economic empowerment within the homeless community sparked a desire to launch a program that provides income opportunities to the homeless through the sale and distribution of biweekly and bimonthly newspapers. The vendors are able to purchase the newspaper from the program for less than half the sales price and keep the remaining portion as income.

Delphia chose to open this business because of her experience working with the homeless and at-risk population and her passion for poverty reduction. Although her business is home-based for now and relies on volunteers, she believes the business will give the homeless an entrepreneurial mindset and have many positive impacts for the homeless population in the city.

With this loan from ACCION USA, Delphia will be able to print more newspapers for her flourishing business.
