A loan helped a member to purchase a brick-making machine and more firewood.

Kasawo Youth Brick Layers Group's story

26-year-old Ivan is strong on conviction that he will carve out an even stronger niche for his brick sales business once he acquires this loan. Ivan plies his business in Kayunga, where currently many people from various parts of the country are relocating due to the area's fertile soils. It is therefore fair to say there is in a way a construction boom which has been going on in the area. Though Ivan has been in this business for only two years, he says his involvement in this business is already paying dividends.

Out of his weekly brick sales he is able to make profits totalling Ugandan shillings 185,000. For a business that is just in its fledgling years, this is good indication that future success is feasible. Ivan is envisaging better prospects for his business in the next five years. His plans are for expansion. This business he says was begun with savings from his farming business. With this loan he says he is going to purchase better brick-making machines and more firewood to burn the bricks.
