A loan helped to buy a variety of products.

Lassina's story

Monsieur Lassina is about 35 years old, married, and the father of three children. He lives with his family in Wayerma II, a neighborhood in downtown Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). After running several businesses without success, Monsieur Lassina has been buying and selling diverse products for three years. He has a shop in front of his family's home, where he trades in cigarettes, candy, matches, gum, powdered milk, tea, sugar, soap, etc. He is very much in demand by his clients because his products are of good quality.

To satisfy his growing clientele, he decided to join the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso about four years ago. He has already received three loans which have all been duly repaid.

He is seeking a fourth loan to buy fifteen cartons of various cigarettes, five bags of sugar, twelve boxes of tea, five packages of candy, nine packages of gum, twenty-five packages of matches, fifteen boxes of soap, etc. His merchandise is bought from wholesale sellers in the city to be sold retail in his shop.

With this loan he plans to make a monthly profit of 200,000 FCFA, which will primarily be used to help pay family expenses, pay interest on his loan, and invest in his business.
