Daisy lives in the community of Yoro, Honduras. She is 45 years old and does not have access to electricity, but this has not stopped her from working as a teacher for the past 10 years. She also receives financial support from her spouse, who is a cabinetmaker.
However, although her work has not been affected, she and her family have suffered for many years from not having access to a better quality of life that is offered by electricity. For a long time, they have had to buy kerosene lamps, battery powered lamps, and have had to walk great distances to charge their phones. Above all, they have been exposed to harm to their health from kerosene and candles.
For this reason she is seeking a loan from Soluz Honduras and Kiva to acquire a solar powered lighting system to continue getting up very early to work and not have difficulties when doing housework at night due to lack of lighting. Daisy is sure that the solar system will improve her life and that of her family, since they will not be exposed to toxic gases or fumes.
