A loan helped buy clothes and cooking utensils to stock her shop.

Umefa's story

Umefa is a 27-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her mother and one child in West Mamprusi district in Ghana. With her previous Kiva loan, she expanded her business selling clothes and cooking utensils. She used the profit she earned to reinvest in her business. Umefa is requesting another loan to buy clothes and cooking utensils to stock her shop. She plans to use the profit she earns to pay her school fees and reinvest in the business.

She will repay the 'social interest' on her second loan by volunteering 2.5 hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, facilitating classes from CAMFED’s ‘My Better World’ program with students at her local secondary school, helping to build their self-esteem and motivating them to remain in school.

This loan is special because:

It provides 0% interest loans to entrepreneurs that give back to their community by mentoring.
