A loan helped to purchase more raw food and vegetables to resell.

Rehema's story

Rehema is a 30-year-old who lives in the town of Njeru in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has two children who are all currently in school. For the past four years, Rehema has been working hard to manage her grocery store which sells raw food.

To help expand her business, Rehema has requested a loan from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more raw food and vegetables to resell. It will also help her to generate greater profits to improve her family's standards of living by providing them enough food and more basic needs.

Rehema hopes that in the future she will be able to acquire land and build a residential house. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program that primarily serves small group members like her. Those who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
