Mercy's story

Mercy is a 34-year-old woman with a supportive husband and four children, aged 9, 9, 5, and 2. She enjoys farming maize and groundnuts because these crops provide food and income for her family. Additionally, maize is a staple food in Malawi and sells quickly on the market. She joined the FIFAD program to access input loans for purchasing fertilizer to improve yields on her small farm. Mercy believes crops can only thrive when given all the necessary nutrients, such as fertilizer. This loan will help her harvest higher-quality products for her business. Her dream is to build a house for her family to reduce the cost of monthly rentals. The additional profits will help her support her children’s education.
