A loan helped to buy more variety of medicine to sell.

Miriam Carolina's story

Fifty-five-year-old Miriam, a married mother of three adult children over the age of twenty-two, is proud that each of them were college students. The youngest is in his third year of university. The two oldest graduated from college and one works as a gynecologist and the other is a lawyer!

For seventeen years, Miriam has worked as a social worker. Her husband sells medicine throughout the department/state of Huehuetenango where they live. For eight years, Miriam has bought and sold medicine to various pharmacies and clinics. Her youngest son helps her make deliveries.

There is great demand for the medicine she sells, so Miriam wants to inject more capital into the business and offer more products. She applied for a loan to purchase a quantity of medications and meet her goal of expanding her business.

Miriam was previously a member of Friendship Bridge Trust Bank. Because her business expanded so much, she was eligible to participate in the “Bridge to Success” program. The program offers advanced business training every fortnight with a facilitator, as well as a special individual loans. Miriam will learn how to make a business plan, manage her inventory, and provide good customer service.

Thank you, Kiva Lenders, for meeting Miriam and helping her!
