A loan helped to purchase ingredients for making food items for sale.

Maria Nieves's story

María Nieves A. Jiménez lives in Copainala, in the state of Chiapas in Mexico. She is a single mother of one son, Erik, 17, who is still in her care.

She requests the loan in order to invest it in purchasing ingredients, including meat, vegetables, and tortillas. With this she will make food items that she then will sell in the same town. She has done this for 17 years and says that it's good because through this she has given her only son a good start in life.

She started this work after her husband left when their son was little. Since she was alone, she needed a way of selling something that would give her an income so she could make ends meet.

Her greatest hope is that, with the support offered by FRAC, she can raise more and improve her kitchen, in order to keep working.
