A loan helped to purchase more charcoal, fish, meat, bitter balls, pepper, cassava, plantains, rice, vita, and other goods to sell.

Esther's story

Meet Esther, a 24-year-old mother from Liberia. She lives with her partner and 1 child.

Esther is a hardworking entrepreneur who sells charcoal, fish, meat, bitter balls, pepper, cassava, plantains, rice, vita, and other goods. She learned the ropes of selling from her mother and got her start up capital from her partner.

Esther has been successfully operating her business for 7 years and has no issues with her sales. She works Monday through Saturday, using a car to transport supplies to her business site.

To grow her business, Esther applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia and Kiva Lending Partner to purchase more charcoal, fish, meat, bitter balls, pepper, cassava, plantains, rice, vita, and other goods to sell to her loyal customers.

Esther values her business because it helps her a lot. Her dream for the future is to buy land and build her own shop. Esther expresses her deep thanks and appreciation to BRAC and the Kiva community for their invaluable support.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
