A loan helped to buy nets, buckets, and a boat motor.

Karen Dayana's story

Karen is a warm 22 year old women. She lives with her grandmother in a humble cement house. They both take care of each other, protect each other, and are always attentive to each other's needs.

Karen takes care of her grandmother who can no longer work and is a little sick. That's why for 3 years she's worked collecting and selling seafood. This work doesn't only give her an income to support the home but it also allows her to spend time with her grandmother. Karen has a lot of regular clients because, unlike the competition, she provides home delivery and cleans the crustaceans, fish, and seafood so that her products arrive ready to be prepared. This makes her clients feel very satisfied.

Karen dreams of a future where she can have a seafood restaurant. This is why she's requesting a loan from Kiva which she'll use to invest in her business and buy a boat motor so she can collect and sell more products.

Translated from Spanish by Kiva volunteer Lesa Sexton.

This loan is special because:

It aims to reach vulnerable refugee populations in an isolated region.
