A loan helped to buy several sacks of organic fertilizer.

Pedro's story

Pedro, age 57, has been married to Dominga for 15 years. They have six children who they are raising with great love and affection. They live in their own house in San Antonio, a rural community.

In spite of his advanced age, he says that he has been working in agriculture for 30 years. He started growing vegetables like beans, peas, corn, and potatoes. He plants on his own land and on rented fields. “Everything depends on the planting season,” he says. He is now accustomed to the life in the field and to spending most of his time taking care of his crops. This is what he likes the most.

Time and experience are the keys to being able to get good earnings. The middlemen who sell food all over the country know him. This assures that as long as he is alive he will keep planting.

His greatest difficulty is lack of work capital. He says that he needs to constantly fertilize in order to have a good result from his harvest.

He belongs to the Santa Rosa communal bank, and this is his fourth loan with MFP. He is grateful for the unconditional support they have given him.

Pedro will use the loan to buy several sacks of organic fertilizer to spread over his “única” and “amarilis” (types of potatoes) crops in the next two weeks.
