Danilo, 42, is from the community of El Consuelo located in the town of Pueblo Nuevo, Estelí municipality. He’s single and his occupation is coffee farming. He started working at the age of 11; he learned how to pick and store the coffee helping his father do these tasks. He would work before going to school which was a one and a half hour walk away. He then went to middle school in Pueblo Nuevo but was only able to finish the first year of middle school because he was recruited to serve in the military during the 1980 war. He had to run away in order to avoid the war. His father left him two manzanas (1 Manzana = 1.68 acres) of farm land planted with coffee which has served to support him; he also became a livestock merchant. He currently sells his products in Pueblo Nuevo and to street vendors. He’d like to sell his coffee where prices are better or negotiate directly with foreign buyers.
He is asking for the loan to maintain his two manzanas of coffee, to buy farming supplies and to pay labor costs. It will be of great help to him because he’ll get a better quality and higher yields of coffee and more customers who will want to buy it.
In the near future he’d like to expand his coffee plantation, make improvements to his house and always continue growing coffee because this is a line of work he knows well and enjoys doing. Within his goals is the purchase of a motorcycle, to buy cattle and to have his own coffee gathering center.
