A loan helped to buy more stock of pandanus needed for her weaving business.

'Alilia's story

This is 'Alilia, she is 39 years old. She is married and a mother of three kids. This family consists of five members. They all live together in their own home.

She started up this weaving business on her own to make a living for her family. 'Alilia's husband is away from home and joined a Seasonal Worker Program to provide for the family. 'Alilia doesn't rely on her husband's income so she still manages to run this weaving business.

'Alilia joined a group of women in her village that gather in a hall to conduct weaving. They weave the taovala, mats and fihu in different sizes and styles, then sell them out at an affordable price with good quality.

She earns a good income from her weaving business, which will supplement her husband's income to make a living for her family.

Because her stock of pandanus used for her weaving is almost finished but she received more orders from her regular customers, she applied for this loan to help her buy more stock of pandanus needed in her weaving business. Therefore she will be able to continue running her weaving business in the future.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
