A loan helped a member to buy farm inputs including fertilizer.

Chisi 2 Club Group's story

Jelad, 49, is a hardworking man and is a leader in his Group. He is married and they have been blessed with 5 children, 4 of whom are in school. He is a coffee farmer, and he enjoys farming. Coffee farming needs people who have patience for them to start enjoying the benefits of investing in coffee farming. Coffee farming is a profitable business, though fertilizer required during farming is costly.

Jelad joined the FIFAD programme so that he can have access to input loans, especially fertilizer loans. The price of fertilizer on the Malawi market is increasing daily due to devaluation of the Malawi Kwacha, and this will affect more smallholder farmers who cannot manage to buy more fertilizer with cash. The new loan will help him to buy farm inputs like fertilizer and chemicals. These farm inputs will help him to harvest and sell more during the 2024 – 2025 farming season.
