Phuong is a woman from the Thai ethnic minority. She currently lives in the mountainous region in northwest Vietnam. She stands on the right in the photo.
She lives with her children and a grandchild and 2 of them are still of school age. That has always motivated her to work even harder to take good care of her family. She and her first daughter are the main income generators in her family.
Besides rice farming, she also focuses on cultivating coffee and raising pigs and cows. Her daughter is working as a hired worker to support paying their living expenses. She considers cow breeding as a suitable business because cows have less disease, grow fast and also cost less to raise. Thus, she takes this loan to buy a cow to expand her breeding.
If cow farming goes well, her income will increase and gradually she will accumulate enough to buy a new motorbike for her family and most importantly pay tuition fees for her child and grandchild.
Being illiterate, she hopes for a brighter future for her children via education. She is very grateful for the opportunity and wants to thank all lenders.
