Hadijah's story

Hadijah is 36 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Kawempa region of Uganda. She is married and has 5 children, 4 of whom are currently in school. For the past 4 years, Hadija has been working hard to manage her retail shop in which she sells general merchandise such as sugar, salt, cooking oil, and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, Hadija has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase sugar, salt, cooking oil, and soft drinks for sale, and will help Hadijah to generate greater profits and manage to provide enough food for her family.

Hadijah hopes that in the future she will be able to build a house of her own and expand the business more.

Hadijah is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
