'Elisiva's story

Greetings. This is 'Elisiva. She is 37 years of age. She is the wife of a farmer and a mother of three kids. This family consists of seven members. They all live together in the same house. Currently the three kids are attending school. Her husband spends most of his time in their own field to grow and plant different crops to feed the family.

'Elisiva start this tapa making business on her own to generate more income for her family. This tapa making business is the main income of this family. She can make soft tapa and whole tapa as well. For soft tapa, 'Elisiva and her husband beat raw mulberry bark. For whole tapa, she joins a group of people. Once a week they perform whole tapa making. They make more than 10 tapa in a day. Then they design it using mangrove liquid. Once the tapa is ready, she sells it through the internet to local people and some buyers from overseas. She earns a good income from both soft tapa and whole tapa. That income is used to cover her family weekly expenses, church functions, educate the kids and not to forget her loan repayment.

This loan is to help her buy more mulberry to continue running this tapa making in the future.
