A loan helped to buy mangrove liquids and mulberry for her tapa making business.

Paea's story

This is Paea, she is 24 years of age. She is married with three kids. Her husband works away from her to provide for the family. He joined a group of people who travel overseas in a Seasonal Worker Program. One kid already attends school and the other two not yet. This family consists of nine people who live together under the same roof. The tapa making is another source of income for this family. Paea don't want to rely on her husband's weekly pay so she doesn't want to quit her tapa making business.

She makes the soft tapa by herself and for the tapa making she joins a group of women in their village to perform the tapa making. They spend one day a week making tapas. They can make approximately seven tapas a day in different sizes. The price depends on the style and the size of the tapa. Paea mentions that she sells out her soft tapa to the local people and some women in her group.

The aim of this loan is for her to buy mulberry from an outer island and also some mangrove liquid which helps her to continue to operate her business with no fail.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
