A loan helped to buy a walking tractor to plough her rice paddy.

Hok's story

Hok is 34 years old and she is married with three children, aged between 12 and 2 years. Her two older are at school, while the youngest is at home.

She has been a farmer for these 10 years, and now she also farms short term rice for sale every year. She needs to spend around 90 days just collecting the crops, four tons per hectare, for sale. The crops will be sold directly to her local middleman who buys from her village.

She generally rents another villager’s tractor to plough the rice paddy like every year, and it costs $50 per hectare. To reduce some costs on renting a tractor to plough the rice paddy, Hok also borrowed 6,000,000 Khmer Riel (KHR) to buy a walking tractor to plough her rice paddy.

After acquiring the walking tractor, she can now plough her rice paddy on time, just like the other villagers, allowing her to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
