A loan helped to buy pandanus for her weaving business.

'Akosita's story

This is 'Akosita; she is 48 years of age. She is married to an engineer and a mother of two kids. Her family consists of five members and they all live together under the same roof.

'Akosita didn't want to rely on her husband's income; she needed to do something to make money for her family. She started this weaving business more than 10 years ago. Now she still manages to run this business with the help of other women in her village. They form a group consisting of 10 members who love and are interested in weaving. She can weave taovala, mats, and fihu. But because the mats and fihu take a long time to weave, she focuses on taovala only.

She weaves taovala in different patterns, styles and sizes and the price of the taovala depends on what the style looks like. They are very affordable and good quality. She earns good money from one taovala and uses that money for the family's needs and her loan repayment.

She applied for this loan to help her buy more pandanus used for her weaving business. With this loan she will be able to continue running her business in the future.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
