A loan helped to purchase enough weaves, hair lotions and hair treatment.

Sarah's story

Sarah is 31 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children, who are all currently in school. For the past 3 years now, Sarah has been working hard to manage her beauty salon, where she plaits hair and does hair treatments.

To help expand her business, Sarah has requested a loan of 1700000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase enough weaves, hair lotions and hair treatment to attract more customers. This will help Sarah to generate greater profits and improve on her family standards of living by providing them with enough food and clothes.

Sarah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy bigger dryers. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It offers training programs in life skills for young women.
