A loan helped to purchase more rice, beans, Vita cubes [seasoning], red oil [palm oil], vegetable oil, and pepper to sell.

Catherine's story

This is 49-year-old Catherine, who is living with her partner and is a mother of three children. She never had the opportunity to attend school. Catherine is a businesswoman who sells rice, beans, Vita cubes, red oil, vegetable oil, and pepper. She learned how to sell from her mother.

Catherine has been managing her sales for 15 years and has not encountered any problems with her business. She uses a car or kehkeh (a motorized tricycle) to transport supplies to her business site and sells them Monday through Saturday.

Catherine has asked for a loan from BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. The loan will be used to purchase more rice, beans, Vita cubes, red oil, vegetable oil, and pepper to sell.

Catherine's dream for the future is to buy land and build a house. She is very grateful to BRAC and Kiva for their support and would like to say thanks.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
