A loan helped to buy more liquor and soft drinks to sell.

Betty's story

Betty is 30 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has three children with one of them currently in school.

For the past five years, Betty has been working hard to manage her bar business in which she sells liquor. To help expand her business, Betty has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more liquor and soft drinks to sell. It will help Betty to generate greater profits, invest more in her business and buy food for her family. Betty hopes that in the future she will be able to build more rentals for business.

She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
