Musu's story

Meet 48-year-old Musu from Liberia. She lives with her partner and is a mother of four children. Musu is a strong businesswoman who sells rice, vegetable oil, Vita, dried pepper, greens, plantains, palm nuts, charcoal, cassava, and fufu.

She started the business with financial help from her father and learned the trade from her mother. Musu has not faced any problems with her business and uses a car to transport supplies to her business site. She sells Monday through Saturday, for 8 hours each day.

To expand her business, Musu applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner, to buy more rice, vegetable oil, Vita, dried pepper, greens, plantains, palm nuts, charcoal, cassava, and fufu to sell to her loyal clients. She enjoys her business because it provides her with profits.

Musu goal is to build a shop in the future. She expresses her thanks and appreciation to BRAC and the Kiva community for their support.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
