A loan helped to buy more energy drinks and liquid soap to sell.

Joan's story

Joan Dorothy is 38 years old and lives in the town of Kabuusu in the Kabuusu region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children who are both currently in school.

For the past 7 years Joan Dorothy has been working hard to manage her wholesale shop which sells energy drinks sodas, water and liquid soap. To help expand her business, Joan Dorothy has requested a loan of 2,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more energy drinks and liquid soap and will help Joan Dorothy to generate greater profits to increase her income.

Joan Dorothy hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
