A loan helped to buy supplies to grow her hammock weaving business.

Chuliphon's story

Chuliphon was born and raised in her parents’ village in Northern Thailand. With a sixth grade education, she has always sought ways to support herself and her family. She spent three years working in a shoe factory in South Korea but eventually returned home to be closer to her community. Upon her return, Chuliphon learned about artisan hammock weaving from her sister and found it to be a great fit for her skills and family needs.

Life in Chuliphon's village has traditionally depended on slash-and-burn farming, but this approach has become increasingly unsustainable due to environmental challenges and limited farmland. Like many in her village, Chuliphon found it difficult to rely on agriculture alone. Hammock weaving offers her a safer, more reliable way to provide for her family while staying in her home community.

With this first loan, Chuliphon aims to establish her own hammock weaving business. Her main goal is to earn enough to cover her family’s daily expenses and improve their quality of life. Inspired by the success of other artisans in her village, she is excited to start her journey and contribute to her family's well-being in a meaningful and sustainable way.
