A loan helped to purchase enough clothes patterns to make new dresses and skirts.

Meresi's story

Meresi is 51 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children, 2 of whom are currently in school.

For the past 8 ears, Meresi has worked hard to manage her tailoring business, which sews clothes for sale. To help expand her business, Meresi has requested a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase enough clothes patterns to make new dresses and skirts for sale, and will help Meresi to generate greater profits and improve on her family's standards of living by providing them with enough food and more basic needs.

Meresi hopes that in the future she will be able to build rental houses for business. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Meresi who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
