A loan helped to buy more raw food.

Sylivia's story

Sylivia is 37 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Matugga region of Uganda. She is married and has four children with three of them currently in school.

For the past 14 years, Sylivia has been working hard to manage her firewood and raw food selling business in which she sells matooke, chicken and firewood.

To help expand her business, Sylivia has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more raw food, chicken and firewood, and will help Sylivia to generate greater profits and will be able to increase her income. Sylivia hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business.

She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Sylivia, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
