A loan helped to access quality farm inputs and services.

Aliyu's story

Aliyu returned to his village in Kastina, Nigeria from the city some years ago after losing his job to begin maize farming. As with many other farmers in his community, the income he earns from cultivating is not sufficient to enhance the standard of living of his family.

Before joining Babban Gona, Aliyu's major challenges as a farmer were small or fragmented land, financing needs or low capital, lack of modern equipment and poor farming practices. Because of the training provided by Babban Gona, he was able to get the maximum output from his farm.

There is currently an increase in the cost of fertilizers due to political tension. Therefore, Aliyu is requesting an increased loan to buy better yielding seeds, fertilizers, and other important agricultural inputs that will improve his farming operations and boost his yield, enabling him to generate earnings of up to twice the average Nigerian farmer's annual income.

Aliyu plans on using the profit to invest back into his farm, start a livestock business (cow, poultry, etc), buy a tractor and more advanced farming tools and purchase additional farmland for a bigger harvest next season.

This loan is special because:
