Miriam spent her childhood supporting her mother at home, working cleaning others' houses, and sewing in a factory. She only studied for two years and preferred to work. Miriam (38 years old) is married and the mother of a young lady (17) who is studying for a degree in accounting.
After learning the factory trade, ten years ago, Miriam decided to open her own business. At her house, she makes a variety of clothing in addition to attaching pearls to traditional blouses and selling decorations retail (lace and pearls). Alongside this business, she also has a small variety store of souvenirs and gifts. She wants to expand both businesses and make them more sustainable so that they serve her for financial sustenance in the near future as well as for the rest of her life.
She has participated in a Friendship Bridge communal bank, however it is now time to increase the capital of her businesses. For this reason, she moved to the program called Puente al Éxito, which consists of offering individual loans to women with larger and growing businesses. Miriam wants to continue strengthening her knowledge about investments and budgeting.
With confidence, she asks Kiva lenders for her first individual loan. She will purchase a sewing machine, gifts, and accessories (pearls, lace) wholesale. In the future, she wats to formally have a factory, hire women and have a formal retail space.
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for trusting in women like Miriam.
