My name is Muhammad and I was born in Multan, Punjab, Pakistan. Growing up as a Muslim Pakistani-American in Maine, the least racially diverse state in the U.S., was a very unique experience. I moved to rural Maine from a city of 6 million people in Pakistan. The new place I came to call home couldn't be more different from the old; climate, people, culture, social interactions, and almost everything else about life was different between the two. Growing up and traveling between Pakistan and the U.S., learning the cultures and seeing them from two unique perspectives, helped me appreciate the two cultures and understand myself in different ways.
However, this was a precarious situation as well, because being between two different cultures also meant never being fully a part of something. It meant social alienation regardless of where I was. In Pakistan, I was an American and in America, I was a Pakistani. With the kindness of others and a charming smile, I've learned to be home in both environments.

Inclusion Maine is a full-service DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) consulting firm specializing in organizations, talent acquisition, compliance, and development-related services. Inclusion Maine's mission is to create transformational change in our communities. Our aim is to help organizations become inclusive, attract diverse talent, and develop their talent to be most successful in the marketplace.
I founded Inclusion Maine because belonging is a human need and creating a sense of belonging helps people be the best of themselves if done so authentically. Feeling included and a part of something can have a transformational impact on people, their quality of life, their understanding of purpose, and their self-worth. In an age where we spend more time working than ever before, and where there is greater diversity than ever in the workplace, it is essential to teach human skills to help people be the best of themselves and create environments that invite and welcome all.

What is the purpose of this loan?
My goal is to expand Inclusion Maine's training initiatives by hiring new staff members who can help us engage with local community partners, including other diversity and inclusion consultants and local immigration centers. This team will enable us to offer additional training sessions focused on topics such as belonging, inclusion, cultural competence, bias, anti-racism, being an upstander, inclusion through online platforms, and other areas specific to our local community.
We aim to provide free or reduced-cost opportunities for community members, professionals, community leaders, and youth to learn directly from experts about how diversity, equity, and inclusion can transform our local communities from a grassroots perspective. The addition of new team members will also enhance our outreach, business development, and marketing efforts, allowing us to share Inclusion Maine's story more effectively with businesses across the state. By collaborating with professionals, we can convey our message in a more compelling way and reach a broader audience.
I hope to hire a part-time employee dedicated to expanding our presence in new markets and connecting with communities that we currently do not reach through our outreach and business development efforts.

What is the disbursed date?

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
