A loan helped to purchase more Irish potatoes to sell.

Maureen's story

Maureen is 34 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 3 children who are all currently in school. For the past 6 years, Maureen has been working hard to manage her grocery store, which sells raw food.

To help expand her business, Maureen requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more Irish potatoes to sell. This will help Moureen to generate greater profits and her production will increase and attract more revenue, and she will manage to provide basic needs for her family.

Maureen hopes that in the future she will be able to build a house of her own. She is a member of BRAC's Microfinance Program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members, like Maureen, who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but do have businesses that have grown and qualify for micro loans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
