Catalina, 64 years old, is a woman who has always fought to survive in life. She lives in her own home with her cherished youngest daughter, Leslie, who is 15. She wants to be able to give her a better quality of life.
At a very young age Catalina learned to work in the field with her parents, who taught her everything she had to do to get a good harvest. Now she has her own land, which she cultivates and cares for with a lot of love and patience. She plants peas, cabbage, broccoli, ulluco [a tuber], potatoes and broad beans, which she takes to the wholesale market in Tarma to sell. What she likes most about her work is planting the crops, since she feels that her hard labor bears fruit.
She has been doing this for 49 years and considers the most difficult part to be protecting the crops from the insect plagues that can affect her plantations. She wants to buy new land, so that she can increase her production. This is her 10th loan with MFP. She knows that she must make her payments punctually and is ready to do so. With the 1,009 nuevo soles that she has requested, she will buy manure for her land, so that the new plantings will bear good fruit.
