A loan helped to add stock of cereals to sell.

Joan's story

Joan, a 47-year-old entrepreneur from Kenya, operates a posho mill business and sells cereals, particularly maize. Married with four children aged 11, 18, 19, and 24, Joan and her husband, a farmer, work together to support their family. She finds great joy in her business, which plays a vital role in providing for her family’s needs.

Seeking to boost her operations, Joan is applying for a loan of 130,000 KES to purchase more maize stock. However, she faces challenges due to price fluctuations in maize and other cereal products, making this loan essential for maintaining her inventory. With a proven track record of timely repayments, this is Joan's third loan from ECLOF Kenya (a Kiva field partner), reflecting her commitment and reliability as a borrower.

The profits from her business not only support Joan’s family but also create jobs for local suppliers. Her ultimate goal is to provide her children with quality education while expanding her business. She believes that the loan will greatly enhance her ability to grow her business and secure a bright future for her family, ensuring that they have all the “maize” and more to thrive!
