Emelia's story

Emelia P. is from the village of Poblacion, Don Carlos, Bukidnon. She is 53 years-old. Emelia is married and has two adult children. To make a living, Emelia owns and operates a tailoring business. While not the only means for generating revenue, the main source of income comes from providing general alteration and tailoring services to local community members. Emelia has been engaged in her business for over ten years and earns approximately 5,000 PHP a month.

In 2011, Emelia joined Kiva partner HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Emelia is requesting a first loan of 5,000 PHP which will be used to purchase additional fabrics and materials. She plans to use the additional revenue generated to improve and expand her business.
