A loan helped to purchase more cooking items, such as Maggi, salt, tinned tomatoes, etc., to increase her business.

Mayah's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 25-year-old Mayah from Waterloo branch. She is a married businesswoman with a one-year-old child who is currently attending school. She started this business to take care of her family and educate herself.

Mayah runs a retail business and sells cooking items to her customers around the communities. She has been in this business for the past seven years. Mayah says that her challenge is the increase in the cost of goods and commodities in the country.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more cooking items, such as Maggi, salt, tinned tomatoes, etc., to increase her business.

Mayah says that the extra income from this loan will help to educate her child. In the future, she would like to expand to a large scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
