Minerva Mirabal 1 & 3 Group's story

Maura is one of the members of 'Minerva Mirabal group' (named after one of the legendary Mirabal sisters who resisted and were killed by the dictator Trujillo). Her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican clients, many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti, generally. Her group is located in the urban slums surrounding Santo Domingo, an area where crime is rampant and where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple structure with her three children.

Maura is excited to be taking out her 4th loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loan and grown her business. She plans to use this loan to invest in her business selling bacon and sausage by purchasing pork and beef, to prepare salted meat and pork sausage. She will use the profits to cover her home expenses. She thanks you all for your support.

In this group: Maura, Meri, Angela, Cristian, Carmen, Ramona, Aurelia, Soraida, Dominga, Santa
